RICK SKELTON, CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
Rick brings an Owner/Developer’s Perspective to Commercial Roof Systems. With a thorough understanding of the challenges of today’s real estate world, Rick can approach projects with the owner’s best interests first.
Rick has dedicated his career to financing, designing, developing and managing all forms of environmentally responsible and socially noteworthy projects. He is a national leader in Adaptive re-use, green building and large scale planned sustainable communities. To date, he has developed more than $375,000,000 in projects to his own account as owner. He has 9 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Rick is currently in pre-development for 350 luxury apartments with a 56 slip marina and over 120 Assisted and Independent Living community in Rick’s Bon Secour Township in Gulf Shores Alabama; part of his original Bon Secour Village 952 acre development as designed by the famed Andres Duany of DPZ.
Rick created the housing and full service hospitality for many fortune 500 companies during the Atlanta 1996 Olympics, including NIKE, Sprint, the NBA, Time-Warner, Invesco and more. Developing since 1989, Rick founded in 1997, Skelton Development, LLC, www.skeltondevelopment.com and currently serves as the Company’s Sole Manager. Rick is adept at a myriad of finance tools including, Tax Exempt Bonds, Tax Credits for (historic, low-moderate income and energy), Façade Donations, TAD, TIFF, BID, Empowerment Zone, Enterprise Zone, conventional funding, private equity, EB5 with GCFID which he co-founded. Rick has received more than 17 home builder’s awards to date. He has extensive experience in the trademark and patent field.
Rick was named “one of the most influential residential and commercial real estate individuals in Atlanta” by the Atlanta Business Chronicle 7 years consecutively. Rick was named runner-up as Atlanta Business Person of the Year by the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce for 2000.
Redstone Energy Group:
Rick is a co-founder, principal and board member of REG. He along with his partners Cole Walker and Ret. 3-Star General James Pillsbury (past head of Army Material Command), created a development and consultancy energy company that specialized in distributed micro-grids and solar energy to the military and large private clients. www.redstoneenergy.com. REG is involved in military base energy surety and security programs by solving a myriad of energy issues for the client. REG can consult on how to utilize or syndicate investment tax credits and depreciation for clients.
Commercial Roof Systems:
Skelton resides as Chairman of the Board of Commercial Roof Systems; which is, a commercial roofing contractor that differentiates as a team member in roofing solutions and adding value to the roof as “leasable” space. This is a groundbreaking marriage of roofing and solar. Consultancy programs for energy tax credits and incentives gives Commercial Roof Systems a leading edge in roofing, energy management and roof-top solar for the next century. Partners in Commercial Roof Systems have been involved with over 50,000,000,000 square feet of roofs over the last 25 years. Commercial Roof Systems maintains a roofing engineer on the team.
COMAR:
Rick’s role as a principal is to utilize past development, finance and green project experience so as to foster the successful creation of sustainable developments including solar panel initiatives.
Southern Company:
Rick partnered with and led a Southern Company pilot program initiative for the Georgia Power from 1999 to 2001 for electric charging stations and energy efficiency in the multi-family market. As Georgia Apartment Association Board Member he took green building to real estate REITs around the U.S, Caribbean and Mexico.
Nexus Energy Center:
Rick is the Huntsville, Alabama based, Nexus Energy Center Chair for Electric Vehicles; www.nexusenergycenter.org. The Chair mission will continue the pioneering work initiated with the Southern Company to advance the use of electric vehicles in the private and corporate areas as modes of transportation. Charging stations, in efficiency, use, location and technology will be paramount. Rick will continue his 4 years of research, development and roll-out of an all green racing team.
All Green Racing Programs:
Program Management, development, race team owner and professional race car driver. Rick is the pioneer in multi-disciplined race series green efforts. Rick partnered with a notable group, including Dale Earnhardt Jr. to design Alabama Motorsports Park in Mobile, Alabama, which has a green racing and LEEDS design elements. Rick put the finance, design and programming together as a Board Member. Developments in cars have always been through racing efforts, where extreme conditions are the norm.
Rick is a tremendous asset to the Commercial Roof Systems team. His accomplishments in the Real Estate Industry, the Green Movement, and out of the box “innovative thinking” has created a long list of one success after another.
